Third-party modification adds motion sensing to Xbox 360DVDBack23 @ Jun 20, 2007 21:26 | 33 comments
The new mod, called the Tiltboard is basically a circuit board with ICs and solder points in a similar fashion to illegal mod chips. The board must be placed inside the controller casing and will require the soldering of seven separate wires.
The Tiltboard is very similar to the SIXAXIS controllers of the PS3 and it senses motion and maps it to the right analog stick.
The mod also adds two buttons to the back of the controller that enable or disable the tilting as well as adjust sensitivity, angle and inverted settings.
The Tiltboard is to go on sale online only in 12 countries including the US and UK for about $40 USD.

The right control stick is basically overridden by the accellerometer, allowing you to have your thumb on the X/Y/A/B/White/Black buttons instead. It is useful, and can't be detected, but it is going a bit too far. And it isn't endorsed by MS, so it isn't a case of "the 360 is getting more and more like the PS3". This is an end-user mod gone commercial. |

Comment by: lxfactor (Jun 21, 2007 02:16) not really useless. what if some people switch from ps3 to xbox and what the ps3 feel. then they buy this crap. to try to compare. but nothing will. but i do see a point. |

Comment by: Oraseth (Jun 21, 2007 06:29) It still falls in the "pointless category"... No game will support this feature since 360 does not officially have motion sensory capability. And no game producer is going to waster resources in implementing support... |

Comment by: sinsaint (Jun 21, 2007 13:11) Originally posted by Iguana775: Theirs no point in doing that as MS have already Confirmed they are working on something for the next xbox which uses a camera to track movement and objects. But people who have an xbox probably have a Wii as well so theirs not much point, may as well get a Wii and an xbox for the price of a ps3. |

Comment by: scottz29 (Jun 21, 2007 13:52) you guys are morons ... this hack has nothing to do with being implemented in games -- no doubt it simply overrides one of the analog joysticks and allows you to use the TiltBoard motion instead. that's what the switch is for... duh! |

Comment by: salinger (Jun 21, 2007 15:03) These peopl are f****** copycats. Dont they have anything better to do than copy Sony's technology? As if thier console doesnt have enough to boast about (in particular thier sales). We all know Ps3 rocks and cant be beaten like that even if i´s sales are low. |

Comment by: Dudge669 (Jun 21, 2007 15:41) Ugh, you idiots saying that this is pointless because games don't support it. READ the text. It transforms the motion of the controller to the right analog stick. Therefore, this mod WILL WORK with ANY game that uses the right analog stick (for things such as character movement, aiming, etc). Most games let you configure the controller as well so if it's the left analog stick that you want controlled by the controller motion, that may be possible in some games that let you swap them. Pay attention people. |

Comment by: Ofnir1 (Jun 23, 2007 01:04) I have a motion sensing controller for PS2 that I got from Target, and it was pretty fun playing Ace Combat with it. Can't wait till Ace Combat 6 comes out for the 360 so I can try this new mod out with it! :) |

Thanks to new third-party modification, Xbox 360 controllers will be able to sense tilting motions and then translate those movements in-game in the way Wii and PlayStation 3 controllers do.
