The player takes the role of John Carver, who is stranded on a remote tropical island with an army of elite mercenaries searching to eliminate him. Being outnumbered the player has to infiltrate in the jungle and use the environment and his cunningness in order to survive.
The game features number of weapons from shotguns to rocket launchers and pipe bombs which can be stolen from the enemy. There are various vehicles, such as pick-up trucks and hovercrafts, that can be used to attack land, sea and air. The player can also use special feral abilities to eliminate opposing forces in brutal means.
The game offers multiple multiplayer modes and customizable multiplayer maps that can be shared and played online.
