EA has again failed to properly address the problems with previous games, instead choosing to do the standard graphics/audio/gimmick -update that they do every year.

So, if you own NHL 05 and you're content on playing with the old NHL rules, there's just no reason to buy this one. I'd recommend waiting out for NHL 07.
