July NPD: Video game industry struggling mightilyDVDBack23 @ Aug 10, 2012 02:24 | 7 comments
Total revenue fell 20 percent year-over-year to just $548 million. The downturn was the eight straight month of overall revenue declines.
Console sales got beaten down as the market appears to be saturating at the current price point. Year-over-year sales fell 32 percent to $151 million.
Software fell 23 percent to $260 million. If not for an 8% jump by accessories, the market would have had an even harder time.
The Nintendo 3DS was the only console to see any kind of growth, with all other consoles seeing significant drawdowns.
NPD's figures do not include digital games, mobile games or social games. Additionally, used games, DLC and subscription games are not added. |
