All upcoming Crytek games to be free-to-play

DVDBack23 @ Jun 13, 2012 18:08 | 9 comments

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has confirmed today that all future titles from the studio will be free-to-play.

Each of the games will also be "AAA" titles, meaning they will hold nothing back. The new move will take effect after the release of Crysis 3 and Homefront 2, which are both in development.

The future games will keep budgets between $10-$30 million to ensure "the best quality, console game quality," and will also support the social gaming platform Gface.

"As we were developing console games we knew very clearly that the future is online and free-to-play," Yerli added (via GS). "Right now we are in the transitional phase of our company, transitioning from packaged goods games into an entirely free-to-play experience."

Yerli also noted what most consumers think, in saying: "If you look at what kind of games are done in the packaged goods market, with DLCs and premium services and whatnot, it's literally milking the customers to death."

Well, It's about damn time a company actually listened to it's customers......

until it falls flat no one wants full time F2P more like pay to win.

F2P but over priced DLC=fail.

Until lobbying is a hanging offense I choose anarchy!
Ah modern gaming its like modern film only the watering down of fiction and characters is replaced with shallow and watered down mechanics, gimmicks and shiny-er "people".

Well, which will it be? The two are mutually exclusive.

F2P is of no interest me and I find that come games sacrifice quality to keep a game being free. I not sure if this is the right business model for Crytek, but good luck

No such thing as a "free puppy". We all know there's going to be product placement, console graphics, lag from hell and then you might as well dig out that credit card because you're going to have to pay the real cash for weapons upgrades & body armor; which means...

Snot noses & Bravo Foxtrotters with mummy/duddy's class "A" craedit line will be pissing all over the game play. Not to mention, I'm pissed about this 'online always shite' in order to play a f*king single player game!

I bought Diablo 3 (PC, obviously) & I have to be online ALWAYS? Either I've stepped back 10 years in protocol or the meds have robbed me yet again of several dozen IQ points, but I'm tired of this ET phone home crap to play a game I have no intentions of going online with.

I'm too old for this crap. Put the game in & play. Irritating.

I'm with ya LordRuss, I don't think I play any games online. The advent of Xbox Live killed that experience for me. Sorry, I don't have hours to waste to become good enough to enjoy a few minutes of playtime. Give me a solid single player campaign. Heck, I'll take a 2-D Mario game over most of the stuff out there. Just old school thinking.

BTW, I wonder how many Diablo players are living in rural areas with dial-up connections? Must be real fun for them.

HAHA nice; you not alone, so I think we all jumped back a decade.

BUT you never know, a company may come alone that pulls it off correctly, with no consequence. It could be Crytek, I doubt it, but it could happen.

Are you people joking? Free to play is a huge industry with literally thousands of titles. Most of the games I play are Free to play, and no, you don't need to pay to win either.

You guys need to stop giving money to EA and Blizzard, and download TeamFortress 2 and LoL instead.

I'll stick my foot up your ass.
